'Tis the season

The TV station recorded my voice for a commercial today while I was at work! That was strange. And I talked about health foods as gifts for the holidays.

So if all goes well, these pipes will be on cable. It still feels like a random, weird achievement.

Speaking of the holidays, there’s only one more semester left until I graduate, and that fact is rapidly sinking in. Friends and fellow journalism majors are starting to plan their “real world” fates. The intense search for internships has gripped the entire journalism college. It’s starting to feel like an episode of Survivor.

I decided that I want to go straight into the work force, and my job search is going to start in January. I’ve already been perusing the Internet. Thank you, Google, for blowing my mind with wacky job opportunities.

To be quite truthful, Internet world, I’d be happy reporting anywhere. It can be out of state. It can be for any medium. It can be in outer space. Everyone agrees that it’s best to keep our options open as seniors.

Next semester, I’m taking photojournalism, online storytelling, an HTML and flash class, and intermediate Spanish 2. The semester’s going to be pretty exciting.

Also, a quick journalism project update: For my “Reporting for the Web” class, I went with a partner to the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo a few weeks ago. We gathered audio, photos and video to put together a multimedia presentation.

I was in charge of audio and photos, and here are a few images I captured from the zoo:

Hello There

I have ridden in a helicopter that has flown over Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, walked through corn fields out in the rural outskirts of town and sat in on a High Springs police active-shooter training. I have conversed with many people, from circus performers and authors to hackers and the local homeless. And, believe it or not, I actually take joy in covering City Commission meetings.

I recently graduated from the University of Florida, and I have worked for The Independent Florida Alligator and The North Florida Herald in High Springs, Fla. I have also worked at the local news station, WCJB TV20, as an associate producer, and ABC News On Campus as a reporter.

I am currently at the Society of Professional Journalists National Headquarters and busy hunting for full-time job opportunities.

I also love to collaborate on creative projects, whether it be with music, poetry or fiction. If you need help editing a chapter of your short story or need a violinist for that piece you’re planning to play, I’m your gal.

If you would like to get in touch with me, feel free to e-mail me at aprildudash@gmail.com.
